Practical Guide of Antananarivo
Visa extension | Guided tours (tour operators)
Best place for changing money (and with the best rates) is doubtless the airport. Travellers cheques in major currencies will be changed readily.
Socimad
(Ivato Airport)
Opened 24 hours a day every single day
Phone: 032 07 365 95
If you cannot manage to change your money here there are a couple further options more in Tana. Banks normally open only on weekdays. The ATM at the Carlton is opened 24 hours. Other ATMs are located at the BMOI (Place de l´Independance) and at the BNI-CL (branch office at Araben´ny 26 Jona 1960). If you need to change cash and travellers cheques go to Socimad Bureau de Change (Lalana Radama I), Bank of Africa (Place de L´Independance), at the BMOI (see above) or at UCB (Lalala des 77 Parlementaires Francais).
Cars with a covered over windscreen are the entrance to the black market. Keep your hands from making any deals there!

There are public phones for domestic
and international calls placed at almost all post offices. The main
post office is located at the Lalana Andrianary and is opened from 8 am
to noon and from 2 pm to 6 pm. Both Tana's main post offices have good
Internet centres.
Several cyber cafes are scattered through the city. Following can be
mentioned:
Outcool Web
(Lalana Andrianary Ratianarivo) - $1,4 per hour, and has a fast
connection.
Teknet Cybercafe
(Avenue General Ramantsoa Ambatonilika) cost $1,2 per hour.
Planete Cybercafe (30, rue Emile Ranarivelo – Behoririka) in
the
Chinese borough between the restaurant and the shop Decorama) opens
from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 19 pm.
Cybercafé
de l'Ouest (III G 55 Ouest Ambohijanahary)
CyberPlus
(Lot IVG 1 bis Behoririka)
Free Net

Multi Electronics Espace Web (70 m from Ampasapito U-turn on the road
to Institut Pasteur) opens also on Sunday morning
Many of the hotels cited above do provide also non guests an internet
connexion, which is reputedly far better, safer and more expensive than
cybercafés.

books including maps of Madagascar.
La librairie mixte (Avenue de l`Indépendance 37, a good selection of books and maps of Madagascar (most of them in Frech), postcards and international press.
